Serve, explore, and discern

Passionate about cross-cultural work but still discerning whether God is leading you to serve long-term? If this sounds like you, our mid-term program, On Track, might be the perfect fit. Our mid-term service opportunities allow you to immerse yourself in local culture and walk alongside long-term teammates.

Why mid-term?

Mid-term service allows you to explore long-term service before committing to it. You can:

  • Serve for an extended period of time.
  • Build meaningful relationships and connections.
  • See the costs and rewards of long-term service up close.

Participant Profiles

Here’s how some of our mid-term workers are serving.

Providing Rehabilitation Services

Kathryn* is a physical therapist who spent 6 months working in a medical clinic in the Middle East. “I want to do my profession with excellence and share God’s love with others, so I was excited to work in a clinic that’s very holistic.”

Teaching English at a Refugee Center

Peter* used his newfound flexibility in retirement to teach English and build relationships at a refugee center in the Middle East. He enjoyed watching God stir spiritual interest in his students – and strengthen the small, but growing local church in his community.

Serving at a Women and Children’s Shelter

Evelyn* is a college student studying psychology who recently became a follower of Jesus. Eager to participate in God’s global vision, she decided to use her gap year to serve in a women and children’s shelter and make Christ known in Central Asia.

FAQs about Mid-Term Service

  • Who are these opportunities most suited for?

Our mid-term opportunities are great for those taking a gap year or career break, as well as those in a new season of life, like post-graduation or post-retirement. However, these opportunities are really open to anyone exploring long-term cross-cultural service!

  • How soon should I apply?

We recommend applying at least 6-9 months before you hope to go.

  • How is it funded?

Most of our service opportunities are fundraised opportunities enabled through the generosity of fellow church members, friends, family, and colleagues. Some positions are salaried, but they often require supplemental support. Afraid of fundraising? Don’t be! We’ll train you and walk with you throughout the process. Plus, fundraising is a unique opportunity to build partnerships and get others involved in the work God is doing around the world. Click to learn more about how it works to serve with Interserve USA.
