Regional Profile

A change in immigration patterns and openness to the resettlement of refugees has brought the peoples of the world to the USA.

More about the USA:

  • The North American church tends to view the changes with a critical or blind eye so that resources for these people are not available to them.
  • New immigrants and refugees are vulnerable and many are in need of help that can be offered through the churches such as resettlement, English classes, help in developing business opportunities and in learning the various systems in the US.
  • The North American church can learn much from these people if there are channels of communication opened.

EthnoServe

Interserve personnel have worked for over 150 years in countries from Norh Africa to South Asia. In recent years tens of thousands of people from those countries have immigrated to the USA. To extend the ministry of Interserve to those people as well Interserve USA developed the EthnoServe project.

The goal of EthnoServe is to inform, motivate, and equip churches in the USA to extend their ministries to the immigrant peoples in their neighborhoods.

We work toward that goal in the following ways:

  1. We will welcome opportunities to meet with any pastor, missions leader, or missions committee to present the challenge of ethnic ministry.

  2. We offer a workshop titled "Going Among the Nations without a Passport." We have custom-designed other workshops to meet specific needs (e.g., a workshop on understanding Islam or Hinduism or Buddhism or one on developing an ESL program in the local church).

  3. We participate in several national networks, each concentrating on ministry to a particular people group, as well as in the national Ethnic America Network. It is our desire to place workers in settings where they can help in the projects of these networks.

  4. We place workers, long term and short term, in other ehthnic ministry situations, from organizaions needing assistance to placements with a local church that is developing an ethnic minisry program.
