The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal is a buffer country between
the two giants of China to the north and India to the south.
It is the only official Hindu state in the world — 86%
of the people are Hindu
- King GYANENDRA is the head of state until elections are
called again.
- Tourism is important to the economy of the country with
trekking being a very large part of the tourism industry.
Base camp for climbs to Mt. Everest are in Nepal as are
9 other highest peaks in the world.
- Tourism has been hurt by the Maoist insurgency that has
overtaken the country in the past 5 years with many innocent
lives lost.
