Pakistan Earthquake Devastation may be Worse than Indian Tsunami

The devastation from the October Pakistan earthquake may prove to be worse than that from the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, say Interserve Partners working in the region.

The region is very remote, so it is very difficult for aid workers to reach the affected areas, many of which are on mountain sides where even helicopters can’t land. Every day as roads are cleared new bodies are found, including entire villages. Winter is quickly closing in and survivors are coping with the psychological trauma of losing family members and their livelihoods.

NGOs providing relief are facing significant funding crises partly because the media is no longer covering the event.

Partners ask your prayers for strength and wisdom as they try to serve the Pakistani people. If you want to donate to Interserve’s relief effort you may do so by calling 1-800-809-4440 or email info@interserveusa.org.
